Crispy Air Fried Hodo Tofu Fries

Yields: 4 Servings

Recipe, Photo, & Styling by Michelle Cehn & Kaylie Grace | World of Vegan

“French fries made from tofu? Oh yes! These protein-filled plant-powered tofu fries are all the best of classic fries, plus so much more. They are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and crusted with a crispy savory nutritional yeast coasting. Get your air fryer ready, because once you try these, you'll be making them a lot.” –Michelle Cehn

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 oz) block Hodo Organic Extra Firm Tofu Locate Product →

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil

  • 2 tbsp corn starch or substitute with almond flour (for a low-carb, keto option)

  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast

Instructions

  1. Open and drain the block of super-firm (or extra-firm) tofu and pat dry with a towel. Using a sharp knife, slice into fry shapes (see video for instructions). Place tofu fries in a mixing bowl.

  2. Sprinkle on the salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and toasted sesame oil and mix until evenly coated.

  3. Add corn starch or almond flour (for a low-carb option) and mix until evenly coated.

  4. Add nutritional yeast and gently mix until all tofu is fully and evenly coated. It's okay if there are some loose nutritional yeast flakes at the bottom of the bowl.

  5. In an air fryer basket, spread tofu fries evenly in a single layer (not touching) and cook for 20 minutes at 390° F, pausing to shake the fries twice during this time. Note: every air fryer is a little different—some require preheating, others don't—so keep a close eye to get your perfect fry.

  6. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
